National Training Camp for CWG 2018

The upcoming year is an important one for Indian gymnastics with a lot of major competitions, starting with the Commonwealth Games in April 2018 at Gold Coast, Australia, the Asian Games in August 2018 at Indonesia followed by the World Championships in October 2018 in Doha, Qatar.

As the CWG are right around the corner, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) has planned to conduct a Preparation Camp for the top athletes in the country. The camp is scheduled to start from the 11th of December 2017 to the 25th of February 2018 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Delhi.

This camp will most likely focus on routine preparation and skill refinement. This is a good initiative to help improve the level of gymnastics in the country and provide good facility and equipment to the gymnasts.

There will be a total of 37 campers comprising 11 female gymnasts, 13 male gymnasts, 9 coaches and 4 Support Staff.

Male Gymnasts include:
Yogeshwar Singh, Siddharth Verma, Abhijeet Kumar, Prateep Das, Partha Mandal, Arik Dey, Abhilekh Parashar, Mohd Boby, Aditya Singh, Gaurav Kumar, Ashish Kumar, Rakesh Kumar Patra.

Female Gymnasts include:
Dipa Karmakar, Aruna Budda Reddy, Pranati Nayak, Pranati Das, Dwija Asher, Ashmita Paul, Shravani Raut, Shradha Talekar, Payal Bhattacharajee, Purva Kirve, Debolina.

Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Coaches:
Dr. G.S. Bawa, Mr Manoj Kumar, P.P. Banerjee, B.L. Bayskar, Ranjan Barthwal

Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Coaches:
B.S. Nandi, Nandkishor Tawade, Joy Prakash Chokroborty, Minara Begum

Support Staff:
Sajid Ahmed (Physio), Maureen Sharma (Physio), Rajib Saha (Masseur)

We hope after Dipa Karmakar’s performance at the Olympics, this will be the next stage for all our indian gymnasts to shine. There is a clear hunger for glory at the CWG and we wish all the gymnasts around the country the very best for their preparation for the Commonwealth Games!
